GRADES:

Each marking period is graded by dividing the number of points the student earned by the number of points possible. The resulting percentage is assigned a grade as follows:

A = 100%-92% B = 91%-82% C = 81%-72%
D = 71%-63% F = 62%-0%

The final grade for the course will be determined by combining the grades for each marking period with the final exam grade, which is worth 1/5 of the total grade. When a grade falls on a break point (91.5, 71.9, etc) it will be considered for round up at the sole discretion of the teacher, taking into account such factors as the student's effort and whether or not all assignments have been completed. Current student grades are available HERE.

EXTRA CREDIT:

Many opportunities are provided to earn extra credit both in and out of class. The maximum number of points that can be earned in a quarter is equal to 5% of the total points possible. In-class extra credit can be earned by completing the weekly tongue twister challenge, answering Spanish trivia questions, or through other class activities denoted as being worth extra credit. Out of class extra credit is limited to 10 points per marking period and may be earned as detailed HERE.spacer

PARTICIPATION:

Because class participation is vital to a student's progress in Spanish, participation will be randomly graded. On such days, students must meet the following requirements to receive credit for participation;
a) come prepared,
b) follow instructions, and
c) be actively engaged and on task.

HOMEWORK:

Failure to complete or to turn in homework will result in a zero for that assignment. Missed assignments that are completed and turned in no later than one week late will receive half credit. Remember that passing off another's work as your own is considered cheating and will result in a zero on the project in question. This applies to turning in the same work as a friend, using a computer to do the work for you, or any other form of plagiarizing.

ABSENCES:

Students are allowed two days for each day of a legal, excused absence to make up missed work and exams. If class is to be missed for any other reason (sports, music, field trips, etc.), the student is responsible for asking for the next day's work in advance. Incomplete nine-week grades that are not made up according to school policy will turn into zeros at the end of the allotted time period.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Students are required to bring a three ring binder and four colored pens or pencils to class each day. The pens or pencils should be the following colors; pink (or red), blue, green, and orange.
