Gather the following items:
- 1 balloon - as large as you want.
- 1 old news paper torn in odd pieces - 2 inches square.
- 1 cup of flour - or more as you need extra paste.
- 1/2 cup of water - more or less to paste consistency to
- flour.
- 6 feet of yarn - or strong cord to tie the Piñata.
- 1 - 3 streamers of crepe paper to decorate it.
- 1 small bottle of Elmer's glue to glue the crepe paper.
- Masking tape.
- Pencil.
You need to do the following:
- Inflate the balloon - make a knot to keep in the air.
- Tie the balloon with a string to hang it up.
- Make your paste with the flour and the water until you have the consistency of Elmer's glue.
- Start dipping the newspaper pieces into the paste and cover the balloon with two layers, making sure to tightly cover the string.
- Let the layer dry for a day.
Next day if the paper feels dry when you touch it, then:
- Wrap the balloon with the yarn to give it strength to hold when swinging it.
- Put another two layers of newspapers dipped in paste.
- Let it dry for another day.
- Pop the balloon with a pin and cut a small flap in the side to insert the candy.
- Insert the candy and seal the flap well with masking tape.
The decoration:
- The crepe paper streamers should be cut with a fringe. To do this, curl up the crepe paper with the help of the pencil, and starting from the uncut side, cut up part way to form the fringe.
- Starting from the bottom, layer the crepe paper overlapping the layers.
- Make cones with newspaper or cardboard and attach them to the balloon with masking tape. To make attaching the cones easier, cut three equal slits in the bottom of the cone and fold the flaps you've made at right angles to the cone. Then simply lay the flaps flat against the balloon and tape.
- Decorate the cones with the crepe paper also, adding strings to the tips
